The Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 is a federal regulation under the U.S. Department of Education. This act governs student and institutional rights and responsibilities for student privacy and covers what information pertaining to student's records shall not be released to third parties without written authorization. FERPA protects the privacy rights of students and identifies both student and institutional responsibilities. For compliance purposes, the University is required to carefully follow all of its documented policies and procedures. Activities are subject to internal and external audit.
